Beyond Goods and Services . . . Experience Management New research from London Business School shows how successful companies are focusing on providing their customers with memorable experiences rather than just products and services. Offering or managing experiences is seen as a powerful way to differentiate from competitors, increase revenue and boost customer loyalty. Organisations are turning services into "destinations", compelling places where people visit for an extended period of time, engage in multiple activities and want to return to. "In a noisy crowded market, this is where small brands can really stand out from the crowd, by creating memorable, high quality unique Experiences from the very first touchpoint with a prospective client", according to Anne Duncan, Director of LUMIU. "Successfully managing and delivering "experiences that delight" are especially critical for artisanal products and services where a propective client starts off expecting more than another standard big-brand experience."(April 2012).
It is no secret that the concept of "Outsourcing" has evolved and being replaced by Multisourcing or Right Sourcing . As described in a book by Gartner associates, Cohen and Young, to gain competitive advantages, rather than simply shifting transactional work to low cost locations, organisations can take advantage of a multitude of capability enabling platforms around the world not only to optimize costs, but increasingly to build new capabilities and reach new markets. As sourcing options expand, Right Sourcing is changing the way organisations configure not just their operations buy how they develop new products and services. Lumiu is currently working with several sourcing destinations in EMEA and Asia to promote their capabilities as platforms for strategic growth as well as the operational agility that right sourcing provides. According to a recent report by KPMG more than 60% of outsourcing relationships faulter not because of technical or financial misalignment, but because of people problems and lack of cultural "fit". Research has long supported this view, however outsourcing deals are frequently the result of a "purchasing" approach (transactional), rather than one based on partnership (relational). Working with network partner Tungli Consulting, LUMIU is able to offer a cultural audit to help decisionmakers avoid costly mistakes while enhancing their ability to choose partners and processes that are aligned across social as well as technical and financial dimensions. For more in information on cultural audits, or on Global cross-cultural Management Courses offered to LUMIU clients in association with Tungli Consulting contact bdavis@lumiu.com. (December 2011)
